Policies and Procedures
Planners – Assignment notebooks are provided by MLCES to write down assignments. These are also equivalent to a hall pass.
Ø Students are responsible for having their parents/guardians sign the planner EVERY NIGHT.
Ø Students are responsible for having a teacher give permission EVERY TIME they leave the classroom to go to the bathroom, media center, office, or another location when not escorted with the student’s class or another staff member.
Ø Planners are placed in front of the binder.
Conduct - We follow the “Power Tools” Program:
ü Use the 4 Signs of Respect:
Eyes on speaker
Ears open and listening to speaker
Mouth closed
Body under control
ü Accept responsibility
ü Be safe with words and actions
ü Communicate
ü Don’t discount
ü Enforce all rules
ü Follow directions the first time given
Restrooms -Students are encouraged to use the restrooms before coming to homeroom, before and after specials, and before and after lunch.
Ø If it is imperative to use the restroom during class, students need to wait until an appropriate time and then ask permission from their teacher.
Ø There are no water breaks during class. Bring a water bottle (No juices or flavored water).
Breakfast - Students eating breakfast at school must eat before going to the gym or coming to their homerooms. They may not walk back and forth between the cafeteria, gym, and their classrooms.
Snacks – Snacks are allowed in class provided that:
Ø They are healthy (this includes items such asfresh fruits and vegetables, cheese and crackers, granola bars and excludes cookies, cakes, chips, candy etc.). Please read labels; all items labeled fruit are not necessarily healthy.
Ø Snacks may be eaten at any time specified by the classroom teacher provided that they don’t interfere with the 3 “NO’S”

No trading or sharing
Ø If snacks become disruptive, we will need to do away with them.
Lunch – Begins approximately at 11:45AM – 12:00PM, and this is why a nutritious snack is recommended.
It is also recommended you make a deposit into your child’s lunch account if they purchase lunch on a regular basis. Ice cream is sold separately.
Ø Line up and walk quietly to the cafeteria
Ø Stand quietly in line while waiting to be served. Be patient
Ø Get everything, including ice cream, before sitting down. Once seated, you must remain seated.
Ø Be polite to adults and other students in the lunchroom
Ø Sit in your assigned seats
Ø No trading or sharing lunch items
Ø Parents may visit and eat lunch with their child. Meet your child and say goodbye in the cafeteria.
Attendance –Very important for success in school
Academics
ü students will have parents sign planner each night
ü students will turn in homework on time-usually the next day unless otherwise noted
ü students will follow directions given
ü homework will be completed, all work shown in math and complete sentences as needed
ü Extra credit will be given at discretion of the teacher
ü May be handed in anytime after the first week and before the end of the nine week grading period for a maximum possible grade of a 60%
ü No late papers will be accepted after the last day of the grading period. A zero will be given for all missing work
ü Students grades can be monitored on a daily basis at http//boe.camden.k12.ga.us You will need your child’s school ID number (can be obtained by contacting MLCES) and date of birth to access grades
ü Students will be given an objective goal each quarter and are expected to meet their goal.
ü Assignment including page number and questions (same as copied into planner)
ü Date
ü Homeroom teacher
ü In case of an emergency at home with a note from parent or guardian.
Ø Desks are for general use. Do not store anything in desk (includes extra pens, pencils etc.)
Ø Students will not be allowed to travel between classes with backpacks. Binders, math textbook, and necessary writing utensils only, each teacher will keep their subject’s textbooks in their classroom.

- School starts at 7:40AM. Any student who is not in their homeroom by 7:40AM is tardy. Students must report to homeroom before running errands (must receive permission to run an errand)
- Absences require a note from the student’s parent or guardian upon return
- Student is responsible for requesting makeup work from the teacher.

- Class work is any work started in class and not designated as homework. Any class work not completed during the class period must be completed and turned in the next day
- There will be a limited number of extra copies made for lost assignments.

- Paper Headings: Students are expected to head their papers with the following information placed in the upper right-hand corner of a piece of loose leaf paper

- Late assignment: Any assignment not handed in when it is due with the following exceptions:
ü In case of an emergency at home with a note from parent or guardian.
- Makeup work for absences is due in the number of days absent before missing work criteria takes effect.
